WEATHER CONDITIONS

As elsewhere, v. cold with considerable snow cover.
Road is passable: but narrow, and slippy.
Vis Centre is accessible, and we are working.
X-country ski-ing possible throughout. A track has been ploughed from the Visitor Centre, down South Drive, and up to old forest. Elsewhere, may be a bit of a plod.
If you are visiting, take care driving- snow tyres may help- an dpark off road so we can keep the road clear/cattle fed/etc.
If you are going for a walk, you can get a route card from the Centre, fill it in and leave it in the postbox on Braeloine Bridge. Then, if we find your car at night, we will have a clue.
Otherwise, wrap up well, spare clothing/food/torch/whistle.
And check the forecast http://www.mwis.org.uk/
Stay safe, have fun.

FUNGLE FALLS

This is our first post embedding video. Hope it gets more interesting......

TEACHERS IN TRAINING

We recently hosted a visit by Aberdeen University Education students. The Ranger Service introduced the students to some aspects of working with pupils outdoors: the benefits, and some of the practicalities. Click on pix to enlarge.
This is now becoming more relevant because of the forthcoming 'curriculum for excellence' in Scottish schools, which will promote the outdoor environment as a great place to learn.
We were lucky to have input from Alison Hammerton, from Learning Teaching Scotland. Alison is working in the Cairngorms National Park, helping teachers and site providers to link up.
